My name is Catherine Alice Porter, but I do like to be called Cate. I am 16 years young and currently attend The Knights Templar School and am part of the Sixth Form. I am involved with the Gold Arts Award Scheme, and am hoping that it will help me develop a new art form as well as my personal level of confidence and other important life skills. During the process of the Arts Award, I hope to learn from my mistakes, enabling me to develop myself and take with me new skills which can be applied later in life. Above everything else, I am hoping to have a fun and unique experience as well as making new friends and learning more about what their strengths and weaknesses in the Arts are.
Strengths
I am able to play the keyboard to a satisfactory level and have had lessons in the past, but I prefer to teach myself new songs and tunes as well as creating my own. I thrive on my vivid imagination and often make many scenarios and ideas up. To coincide with this personal strength of mine, I also like to write down many of my ideas and have boxes full of notepads. I also feel I am extremely strong at presentation and making my project work look visually impressive.
Weaknesses
I am known to be a very negative person and am always focusing on the bad areas of my work as opposed to the areas which have been executed very well. I have little confidence when speaking to people who are the same age as me and tend to socialise easier with those younger than me. Although I am a relatively organised person, I still lack control when trying to consider all factors, and have never organised a large group of people. I have never lacked creativity although sometimes fail to think in a more literal sense.
I have also brainstormed a few skills I would like to develop and have included them below:
1. Organising groups of people
2. Photography
3. Acting (Links with confidence)
4. Piano
5. Communication Skills
I wouldn't call it an issue, but I do tend to lack highly in confidence for reasons unexplained. I am a very shy and timid person and hate to be the centre of attention. I enjoy sitting quietly as opposed to being loud. I have experience in the 'fine arts' side of Art, but not so much experience in the digital side i.e. Photography. I have taken pictures before as a past-time, but never have created a portfolio of my work. This could be an idea to focus my arts award on.
I also have experience in playing the Keyboard/Piano, and would like to teach myself more songs as I know the keys and basic chords. This is a hobby of mine and keeps me busy when I'm finding workloads too hard.
